If your antenna system isn’t functioning properly or performance has dropped, we recommend the following initial checks:

Check the connector:
Ensure it’s secure and clean on all contact points.
Make sure no water is present inside the connector.
This is often the cause of faults, especially if the connector isn’t pre-terminated or has been re-terminated.

2. Inspect the coaxial cable:

Look for cuts, abrasions, sharp kinks, squashed areas, or heat damage (melted jacket, exposed braid, or bulging).

3. Check the coax-to-antenna connection:

Ensure there’s no strain or bulging at the base of the antenna, as tension can cause disconnection or system failure.

4. Inspect the antenna itself:

Check the spring/mount base, antenna base/ferrule, and radiating section (radome or whip) for damage, dirt, or water ingress.

5. Test antenna performance separately:

Use an SWR meter or network analyser to check performance without your device connected – Multimeters are not suitable.

6. Test your device:

Connect another antenna to confirm your device (e.g., CB radio) is functioning correctly. Electronics may be the issue due to dirt, moisture, or general wear.
